The city of Spring Valley is showing its businesses that they won’t tolerate the sale of alcohol to people under 21.
The city council last night increased the fines businesses will have to pay if they’re caught selling to minors.
The city adopted the same law the state has. A first time fine could be up to $1000 and the liquor commissioner can suspend a license at anytime.

Is there a fire hydrant near your house? There may be one just down the block but you don’t notice it because it’s hidden by bushes.
That’s a safety issue the City of Peru is hoping they can correct with a new ordinance regulating access to fire hydrants and water connections.
The idea for the ordinance came after Peru Fire Chief Gary Eccles noticed that some hydrants were barely noticeable or accessible because they were lost in people’s landscaping.

A year’s work of preparation for many kids in La Salle County will pay off this week.
The annual La Salle County 4-H Show and Junior Fair starts in earnest tomorrow at the fairgrounds in Ottawa.
Grandstand events include the rodeo tomorrow night, pick-up truck pull Thursday, truck and tractor pull Friday and demolition derby Saturday.
